Weekend Round-Up

SATURDAY: SHIP WRECK DAY IN ANACORTES! As legend has it, it was back in the days when Anacortes was still a "Wild West" seaport town. Apparently, there were a few ships that became shipwrecked just off the coast of Anacortes in the San Juan Islands. Not having money to pay for repairs, the crew gathered all the items they had accumulated in far-off lands (mostly trinkets and personal items) and took over the down-town area to crerate a huge open-air market. The townsfolk loved it, bought tons of used and useless stuff, and the boats made enough money to repair their ships. Every year thereafter, the ships would return with more fo their friends to sell stuff in what has now come to be known as "The Northwest's Largest and Oldest Garage Sale". The ships stopped coming in back in the 1960's, but the townsfolk took over just fine by setting up their own tables.

Items I got while there (as far as i remember):
-Empire Strikes Back Diorama Model Kit
-60's Board Game, "Chopper Strike"
-Rainbow Brite Coffee Mug
-SEVERAL My Little Ponies
-SEVERAL Smurfs
-HUGE Warhammer Boxed Set
-Krofft Super Hour Comic Book
-$80 worth of recent comic books (paid $5)

Then, later that night, we got suckered in to going camping. I say "suckered" because they lured me in with roasted weenies and marshmallows, then made me sleep on the cold cold ground in a tent.

Well, not *exactly* Warhammer... it's one of those HUGE Boxed Set thingees that they put out to try and make it look and feel more like a board game. It's called "Battle Masters", and has about 200 figures in it. For $5, why not?

We used to get them by the truckload, too... STILL do, occasionally! Each one of them sells on Ebay for between $5 and $30, depending on ther condition. Also, they have to be *actual* My Little Pony figures... none of that "My PRETTY Pony crap! It has to be marked on the bottom of it's hoof "Hasbro", or it's just a knock-off!

We paid 50-cents each for these ponies over the weekend :)

That was last weekend??

Just keep checking this Journal... I'll tell you all about the GOOD stuff going in the the area :)

Like two weeks from now (the first weekend of August) is the Anacortes Arts & Crafts Fair. Not as cool as Shipwreck Day, but a great place to go if you're a big fan of unglazed red pottery, $80 Leather Hats, Stained Glass, and checking out hippies who have made it in to their 60's!

You mean..hippies who were too old to make it down to the million Hippy Fests that invade Seattle during the summer?

ugh. no more!!

;)

and thanks..I'll be checkin
