Idea (Partially Stolen)

Semi-inspired by the business model that [livejournal.com profile] freydis has come up with, I've got a mad/phat idea for Ebay.

I wanna sell "Care Packages from Home".

And what do you GET in your Care Package from Home?
  • 1 Dozen home-baked cookies
  • A letter from "Mom" telling you all about how things are going "back home"
  • Three comic books
  • A letter that "Mom" forced your younger sibling to write to you
  • 3 to 5 pictures of your "Family" members notated on the back to let you know who they are.

I think it would be real fun to get one of these in the mail, maybe even have it delivered to your work place. Fun, but in a sad sort of way... not everybody gets care packages from home after all, so somebody should take up the slack and offer this valuable service!

I remember when I went to girl scout camp, which was a whole *2 weeks* away from home, my mom would send me care packages. She would send me popcorn, and cookies, and magazines..and everyone would be jealous, because my mom rulz.

That would be a good idea. Run with it!

Hmmmm... popcorn? Just plain old regular popcorn? Interesting... I could maybe do Popcorn *Balls*... Ooh! And Candy Bars! Forgot about the Snickers Bar that should come in every care package!

You could branch out into various off-color versions of the same - envision the "Cracker Care Package" with a case of Pabst and a copy of Juggs, plus the arrest photos from your cousins and a note from Mom asking for bail money.

well, the popcorn served as package protection so the cookies wouldn't break.

You know, like the foam popcorn? my mom, in addition to ruling, is also effing brilliant.

And yes, Snickers for everyone!

Don't think for a minute that this is not the direction I was going in! And at the Holidays I'll offer Christmas Presents Packages with a wrapped gift of either an ill-fitting sweater or a singing fish plaque, a few Christmas Cards and tape of Holiday music with drunken family members in the background!

[identity profile] captain-slinky.livejournal.com 2006-07-07 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, gotcha!

Still, now I want to make Popcorn Balls!

As well you should.

Because, really, no Care Package would be complete without Popcorn Balls.

Of course, you realize that I may incorporate this whole "care package" idea into our business..my package will be more upstanding, and won't include Juggs, or even comic books, but a nice assortment of cookies and candies would be a nice care package...
..oh, and I won't forget the popcorn balls..;)

It's all good... mine is more of a novelty item designed to give lonely people the same experiences as those who have no family to send care packages. Your care packages would actually be full of good eats, not fiction!

Singing fish FTW!!!!

OK, in all seriousness - if you're thinking about doing this, check out this list for some pretty good ideas.

Of course I wouldn't expect a non-blue-car driver such as yourself to understand the concept entirely... it's really more of a Blue-Or-Silver Car type of thing :)

Well that's *kinda* where I'm going, but the big selling point of my Care Packages From Home will be the "Home" part. They're Care Packages designed for people who don't usually get care packages but wish they could. Everyone from the "lonely single guy" to the "Girl Who Hates Her Real Family" can now get a care package just like those of us who HAVE families that we're ashamed of.

I'm not selling them useful items, I'm selling them the unconditional love of a supportive family!

There are services like this for pretend girlfriends, so there must be some sort of audience out there for this kind of thing.

Exactly what I was thinking! And is your pretend girlfriend gona send you a singing fish for Christmas? I think not! By golly I WILL give the lifeless a bit of life!

Services that send you a "pretend girlfriend" aren't exactly a new concept :)

Oh, that wasn't what you meant :)
