Meh.

Just got done looking at all the "Black Friday" advertisement (which you can find in advance at http://www.slickdeals.net) and all i can say is MEH.

No insane discounts. No limited quantities at this price. No free giftcard for the first 50 people in line. Just "Oh PLEASE come and spend money at our store on Friday morning so we will then have the money PLEASE!!!"

Didn't see a single thing that would inspire me to sit outside in the cold at 4am on Friday morning. Not even the big-ticket items that were supposed to have awesome deals this year (Big-Screen HDTV, Laptops, GPS Navigation) had anything that wasn't an average every-day special price.

I tell ya... when *I* was a kid, Black Friday MEANT something! It used to be SPECIAL! Now it's just gotten entirely too commercial.

This won't be a proper Black Friday, on account of the economy being in the toilet. The shopper volume won't be there, and the companies won't manage to get "in the black" which is where the term originated.

Is THAT where it comes from? I thought it was called Black Friday because once all the merchants of Bethlehem found out that Jesus was going to be born there they had huge "One Day Only" sales on Gold, Frankincense and Myre. The most prominant of these merchants had a striking resemblance to musician/actor Jack Black, hence the name "Black Friday".

...But i could be wrong.
