Organize it like I organize mine: 1) Alphabetical by character, unless it's something like "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Alphabetize those by title alongside the books done by character. 2) If you have a large number of one particular publisher, you can break out that publisher separately, then alphabetize by step 1 within that publisher.

Basically, I agree with the 4th doctor. I'd sort by character, unless there is an extended storyline with it's own title, i.e. Crisis. Those get their own section. Or, just do whatever makes YOU happy. It's your collection.

I usually organize it by the author. (Cooke before Rucka, etc.) because I am weird.

by title seems the most consistent, albeit the least flavorful.

Agreed with 4thDr. Back when I had CDs in racks, we used to alphabetize by band, with all compilations and soundtracks (various artists stuff) in 2 groups at the end alphabetized by title. We also used to break out Jazz and Classical into their own alphabetized categories. So #2 in your post is most like that and makes the most sense to me.

Maybe I should just go super-nerdy and organize them by original publication date, then alphabetically by writer within those subsets...

By character first. If it's like Crisis, those should get sorted by universe.
