Adventures in Uncledom

Two nieces, both from the same brother.

LAST WEEKEND, the older niece was all about going to see Star Trek. "Oh PLEASE take me to see Star Trek! It looks so awesome! Please please please please!!!" She has learned to trust my word on all things that may be considered "Awesome", since I have been the one to introduce her to all of the everything that has ever been awesome. Dungeons & Dragons. Buffy and Angel. Gilmore Girls. Archie Comics. Magic The Gathering. She knows that if *I* love it, SHE will adore it.

The Younger Niece has absolutely no desire to see Star Trek despite everybody trying to convince her to go. She even seems a bit frightened of the idea; she's afraid that she won't "Get It" or understand it because she's never watched any Star Trek. We've all assured her that you don't need any previous knowledge, you don't need to have ever seen an episode of Star Trek, it's just a fun movie that is easy to understand. Still she says she'd rather not because it just doesn't look like the type of thing she'd like.

And so it was decided that we would take The Older Niece to see Star Trek, and The Younger Niece to see something else at a later date. Unfortunately, the day ran long and we had to re-schedule for THIS weekend. Lots and lots of twisty-turny planning and arranging for drop-offs and pick-ups, but we made it.

Then, last night at the very last minute, The Younger Niece says "I get to go too, right? That was the plan all along?"

AAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!
