Movie Timeline

My personal timeline projection for my attitudes towards movies, based on previously available data.

AGE 0-9: "I wish all movies were G-Rated so I could see them"

AGE 10-12: "PG MOVIES ARE AWESOME THEY SAY SWEARS!!!"

AGE 13-16: "I wish I could get away with seeing more R-Rated movies because those movies are where the Boobies live"

AGE 17-25: "What the #&@! is wrong with Hollywood? If a movie isn't Rated R, it's not worth seeing! And even at that, they should be pushing the boundaries of the rating system and going for an "X" because I want MORE gritty, MORE violent, and MORE REALISTIC!!!"

AGE 26-35: "I love movies so much... I can find something redeeming in even the worst film ever! Ratings are meaningless as long as the entertainment is good!"

AGE 36-PRESENT: "I wish more movies were G-Rated so I see them with my kid... din't they used to make a lot more kids movies?"

THE FUTURE: "YEESH do they have to use so many swears? And why did that girl take her shirt of???"

Pretty sure there should be a stage in there that says "I should be writing movies. I could write better dialog that this." You'd be good at that.

I'm in the phase where ratings don't mean much to me. If it's R-rated, I'll look into why, so I don't end up with nightmares or disturbing images in my head that I really don't want. Otherwise, it's all about whether or not I feel it will be of significant entertainment or cultural value to me. I watch so few movies these days because I don't think that many are worth my time anymore. I've never sought out the violence/gritty/explicit sex/nudity side of the movies.

As long as the movie has a plot and decent acting, I enjoy it. But the movies whose sole reason for existing seems to be for the 'special effects' annoy me. I went to see the last Mission Impossible in the theater. Afterwords, I had a hard time remembering the plot.

Winters Bone was a low-budget movie that came out a few years ago. Yes, there was violence, drug use, and bad language. But the plot, writing, and acting were superb. But defintitely not for young children.
