The Bat-Fan Theory Of Good Cinema

Having seen the absolute OUTRAGE over Jesse Eisenberg being cast as Lex Luthor in the next Superman movie, I feel it's time to revisit my own observed history of Fan Rage over "Poor Casting" as witnessed through the 1980's/1990's Batman Movie Franchise.

1988: "Michael Keaton as BATMAN?!?!? The guy from 'Mr. Mom' and 'Gung Ho'??? That's TERRIBLE! AWFUL! He's a COMEDIAN, not a HERO! We need somebody strong and handsome in that roll, like That guy from Top Gun that was in Willow... Val whatsisname!"

1991: "Christopher Walken? AWESOME! NOW we're talkin'! And Danny DeVitto as The Penguin? GENIUS! This is gonna be AWESOME!

1994: "HOT DAMN VAL KILMER AS BATMAN!!! And finally ROBIN! And a supporting cast of Jim Carey and Tommy Lee Jones? THIS is the Bat-Movie we've been waiting for!"

1996: "SEXIEST MAN ALIVE GEORGE CLOONEY AS BATMAN?!?!? ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER?!?!? HOLY CRAP!!! THIS WILL BE THE BATMN FILM THAT EVERYONE REMEMBERS!!!"

Heh. I've given up on paying much attention to the casting these days.
