Well NOW what?

Crystal and I are done re-watching Firefly, so NOW what are we going to do? We still have the movie to watch, but sometimes I like to leave that out of the equation. Just let the 14 episodes of the series stand on their own, let Wash and Book live...

So I have it narrowed down to three options, each with their own pros and cons:

  • SCRUBS - We started watching around Season 4, stopped watching around season 6, and now that the entire series in on Netflix it might be fun BUT if I remember correctly things kind of go off the rails in later seasons when the entire cast goes away and they focus on a new set of interns; I have heard that those final seasons are just unbearably bad.

  • ARROW - It seems that every day I read something about the CW "Arrow" series (based on Green Arrow) that makes me say OH MAN I NEED TO WATCH THIS, but I tried watching for a while and the first 3 episodes were *SOOOOOOO* CW (sexy angsty Gossip Girl Glitzy Kardashian BLAH) that they really turned me off. Is the whole series like that? I see NO POSSIBLE WAY for the show I watched to spawn heroes like The Atom, The Flash, Deathstroke and even a possible Suicide Squad spin-off???

  • SUPERNATURAL - We almost made it through the first season, ALMOST. There are glimpses of fun in there, and everyone says we should skip the first two seasons, but WE DON'T ROLL THAT WAY. We watch things in order! We respect the creative process! If we watch this series, WE WILL WATCH IT IN ORDER!!!

I now open the discussion for suggestions :)

I'm torn because I'm considering trying Arrow based on a tumblr friend's serious love of it... but I haven't gathered the courage to do so yet.

Scrubs I can't speak for the final two seasons because I stalled after their fairy tale episode. But I was rewatching the first three seasons when packing. Scrubs gets my vote since it'll make you laugh and cry.

I'm stalled on S4 or 5 of Supernatural because the fandom is crazy and I couldn't deal. Also... New place and creepy 4am viewings require a co-pilot, I feel.

Sooo Scrubs gets my vote!

That's good thinkin' there :) Scrubs also has the advantage of being a half-hour AND something that Molly can walk in on us watching without us having to pause and say "Oh no honey this isn't for kids go play!"

Welllllll... there are some fantasy sequences you might want to shoo her on through, but yeah, not as much nightmare fuel as Supernatural.

Scrubs! Scrubs! Scrubs! As soon as I can uncover my dvd player, I'm resuming my re-watch.

I'm aaaaalllmost through supernatural. My take: The primary characters are a rollercoaster of quality. Sometimes they're entertaining and passable protagonists, but at the same time, the plot of EVERY SEASON focuses on:
Brother #1: I can't possibly tell my brother what I'm going through...it would make him sad/mad.
Brother #2: Are you keeping secrets? I'm sad/mad that you seem to be keeping secrets.
Brother #1: Nope. No secrets. I swear >>
Brother #2: Oh. Cool beans.
Later:
Brother #2: DAMN IT. YOU HAVE SECRETS!!!
Brother #1: *angst*
Brother #2: *angst*

This, obviously, gets old. Quickly. I will say, season 1 is harder to get through then subsequent seasons. It took me a few tries to break the barrier. Also, Supernatural has some of my FAVORITE secondary characters. A looooot of their secondary characters are really well written, interesting, entertaining and dynamic. It's just the main two...and of those two, mostly Sam. Ugh. Sam.

I recommend watching supernatural as a filler when you need a break from marathoning another show. Also, did you know that Gravity Falls just started season 2? *eyebrows* so there's that...

I don't know when and I don't know how, but I *will* be using that description of Supernatural in casual conversation, or a variation of it. "Oh I think my favorite season was the one where that one brother had the secret but he didn't want to let the other brother know the secret because it would make him sad or mad, but then the other brother totally found out about it! THAT SEASON WAS EPIC!!!"

Also, waiting till we have the full season of Gravity Falls under our belt so we can binge-watch... it's much better that way :)

We couldn't do Arrow either and we have great motivation to watch Mr. Arrow in his wearing next-to-nothingness all over the screen. The rest of it was so bad we couldn't.

Supernatural is like a low brow version of Buffy to me. It never quite achieves camp in an enjoyable way.

I would really recommend The Fall the Northern Irish/BBC series staring Gilian Anderson.
If you haven't watched the series Wonder Falls, I think your kid might even be able to watch it. Excellent.
Life on Mars. Fantastic time-travel/cop show from BBC. Modern cop is trapped back in the '60s. Maybe.

Don't skip the 1st two seasons of SPN! The first five make a really fantastic arc that has one of the best denouements I've ever seen on TV. I like the series after that, too, but that first five seasons is fabulous.

But yes, Arrow. Arrow is amazing. I say go with Arrow. Stick with it. They find their feet well before the end of season one and that finale is just mind-blowing and they didn't drop a stitch in season 2. GREAT show.

Scrubs all the way. I'm in the middle of marathoning it myself. The later seasons do decline, but I actually enjoyed the last season. You just have to think of it as a spinoff, as it was intended to be. As opposed to a 9th season of Scrubs, it's the first and only season of Scrubs: Med School.

I'm currently working my way through Supernatural. I had trouble sticking with the first season, but the second season seems to be holding my attention a bit better.

Have you watched Freaks and Geeks? I enjoyed that one enough that I've watched it twice now.

Arrow is also on my list, along with Breaking Bad. Everyone tells me that Breaking Bad is terrific.

Arrow is actually pretty good overall. It improved as it went along. I think you will like their version of Deathstroke, and The Suicide Squad. I actually liked it far more than I expected to. Keep in mind, I'm a long time Marvel advocate.

Supernatural is fun to watch for the most part. Like all long running series, some seasons are better than others. It will never be as good as Buffy, but then, nothing ever is.

Other suggestions for viewing are Life, and Lie to Me. Both are shows ended before their time.

Good suggestions... also considering "Psych", I've heard wonderful things about it!
