RISKy Evening

Brittany spent the night with us last night, and we (read: "I") decided it would be a good night to teach her how to play RISK! Crystal had never played either, and I barely remembered how to play, so it was a learning experience for all of us!

Briuttan picked the game up with no problems. She is just so darned smart! All was good until she lost Egypt, then she started to cry. I started to say "Oh, knock it off! you're acting like a little girl!" till i remembered that she *is* a little girl. From there it became obvious that she had learned at least *one* thing from her ex-stepfather: If you are losing the game, make sure to pout, complain, make sure everyone knows that you think the game is stupid, and generaly make everyone as miserable as possible. But at least she didn't yell at us and throw the game across the room! So we told her that she was acting like him, and how nobody liked a person like that, and we understood how it could seem frustrating, and all sorts of other stuff. it has a half-hour break from the game, but after that, we all had a really good time and i think she learned a bit about good sportsmanship... or at least how to enjoy a game even if you are losing! I was very proud of her :)

I played the good old "Don't mind me, I'm just trying to hold Australia" strategy. you know... where you try to get everyone to fight amongst themselves and not realize that you are amassing a huge army of killer cyborg kangaroos and Commando koala bears in Australia. Then in hour 3 of playing (whene everyone else is sick of playing and just wants to die), I swept throughte board creating the great Empire of Cousin Olivarian Territories (as I have come to know them). All but 4 territories were mine! It was the best I've ever done at playing Risk... and all it took was choosing the proper aponents! A child and a girl who had never played!
