Brittany spent the night with us last night, and we (read: "I") decided it would be a good night to teach her how to play RISK! Crystal had never played either, and I barely remembered how to play, so it was a learning experience for all of us!

Briuttan picked the game up with no problems. She is just so darned smart! All was good until she lost Egypt, then she started to cry. I started to say "Oh, knock it off! you're acting like a little girl!" till i remembered that she *is* a little girl. From there it became obvious that she had learned at least *one* thing from her ex-stepfather: If you are losing the game, make sure to pout, complain, make sure everyone knows that you think the game is stupid, and generaly make everyone as miserable as possible. But at least she didn't yell at us and throw the game across the room! So we told her that she was acting like him, and how nobody liked a person like that, and we understood how it could seem frustrating, and all sorts of other stuff. it has a half-hour break from the game, but after that, we all had a really good time and i think she learned a bit about good sportsmanship... or at least how to enjoy a game even if you are losing! I was very proud of her :)

I played the good old "Don't mind me, I'm just trying to hold Australia" strategy. you know... where you try to get everyone to fight amongst themselves and not realize that you are amassing a huge army of killer cyborg kangaroos and Commando koala bears in Australia. Then in hour 3 of playing (whene everyone else is sick of playing and just wants to die), I swept throughte board creating the great Empire of Cousin Olivarian Territories (as I have come to know them). All but 4 territories were mine! It was the best I've ever done at playing Risk... and all it took was choosing the proper aponents! A child and a girl who had never played!

Congrats on your win! XD

My 6-year old cousin is so... Different... When she looses, she gets angry and stomps on the ground and yells. She doesn't destroy the game or anything but it's still pretty annoying. >=\

Ah, what a great game.... All sorts of fun variations. Like drinking risk. We do that occasionally. Not as good when played with a child though. Something about having her doing shooters of chocolate milk while you do ones of jagermeister, or something else alcoholic seems wrong. Like a bag full of kittens and a hockey stick. So fun, yet something intrisically evil in it...

Ever tried Diplomacy or Colonial diplomacy? Like risk, but no dice, just negotiationg and backstabbing of other players. In colonial the Netherlands has alot of the land around well, where they had colonies, in those islands above australia, and a friend of mine swept through australia with with 'hollandish steppe ponies and dutch butter guns'

Yep. History forgets the hollandish steppe ponies and the dutch butter guns, but we do not!

Yes, Risk... the Board Game equivelent of Charlie Brown. Stealth Dingoes are good, I shall have to cross-breed/train some next time we play.

Played Diplomacy *once*, but I was the only sober person playing and I didn't actually know the rules. However, I'm pretty sure there was more to it than yelling, crying, and hugging. I guess those were the "House Rules".

Yes, cause apparently they removed the wanton sex for your sake....... An intrisical part to Diplomacy. Yes. Really.

I like it, but prefer play by mail to sit down sessions. They just take sooooooooo long.
