AAAARGH!!!

Y know what pisses me off? People who only allow replies from people on their Friends List, or "Screen out comments from non-friends". It's a public post, out there for anybody to see, but they don't want anybody that they don't know commenting on it. It just doesn't make sense to me! If you have something to say that you only want your friends t comment about, why not just make it a "Friends Only" post? That way, I would never even SEE the post in the first place, never click on the "Reply To This Post", spend 20 minutes writing a carefully thought-out and deelightfuly insightful reply, and then have my words rejected without even having been considered!

REAL LIFE EXAMPLE

Let's say there's a person standing on a street corner, shouting out "Someone help me! I'm lost! I need help! Can anyone help me? ANYONE??? Anyone at all? Why doesn't anyone care?" Being the nice, caring guy that I am, I stop by and listen to this person go on and on abou their problem, and how they are so full of woe over the fact that absolutely NO ONE in the ENTIRE WORLD will even stop to listen or help. I open my mouth to offer words of condolence when suddenly the person just turns away from me. Without even looking at me, they say "Not *you*... I only want my FRIENDS to offer me help. How *dare* you try to comment n my problems?"

And then they punch me in the nutsack and cntinue to yell out about their problems and how upset they are that absolutely NO ONE will help them.

So in short, please, if it's something you only want your frinds to comment on? Make it a Friends Only post. Thanks!

Right... but then why not just make the posts Friends Only? If the only people who can comment are the ones that you know, then why do you need the rest of the world to just *see* what you're talking about? Isn't it akin to going up to a group of strangers and saying "Okay, shut up and listen", going on a rant, then just leaving?

(By the way, the post is not about you, and my statements aren't really directed at you... they are directed at "You", the people who use the Non-Friend Screen)

Because there are some people that aren't on my friends list that read my LJ. If I made it friends only they wouldn't see it. They are allowed to comment, I just have to screen it first, that is all.

I just have to double check it isn't that asshat that was harassing me and have to subject the people who are reading my journal to his idiotic words.

(I know the post wasn't about *me* in general, but I am just defending why someone would. I know how you love to debate. ;) )

Yeah, but the "Screen" doesn't allow you to pick and choose... it actually blocks non-friends from even being able to post! You will never ever get to see those replies frm non-friends, so you'll never know anythng other than what the carefully selected members of your friends list have to say.

Maybe it's just me. When I say something *publicly*, it's because I'm open to comments from *anyone*. If I only want comments from my friends, I make it friends only.

Maybe I am getting confused here. I thought when you screen a comment it doesn't put up the comment until you have approved it.

Am I wrong on this? (If I am it wouldn't be the first time.) ;)

No idea... all I know is that when I try to comment to a "screened" post, I get "Access denied, you may not post replies to this users posts, this user has blocked all comments from non-friends"

Have you used the Friends Screen? Have you ever received some srt of "There is a reply to your post waiting to be approved" message? And if so, doesn't that sort of negate the first argument wherein you would use the screen in order to avoid having to read comments frm the asshats who were harrassing you?

Actually I said
I just have to double check it isn't that asshat that was harassing me and have to subject the people who are reading my journal to his idiotic words.

So, no it doesn't negate it at all. :P

I guess there is more than one type of screening then. When someone comments, I get an email that I have to unscreen the comment if I want others to see it.

I guess it would make sense there is more than one type of screening. Silly me!
