AAAARGH!!!

Y know what pisses me off? People who only allow replies from people on their Friends List, or "Screen out comments from non-friends". It's a public post, out there for anybody to see, but they don't want anybody that they don't know commenting on it. It just doesn't make sense to me! If you have something to say that you only want your friends t comment about, why not just make it a "Friends Only" post? That way, I would never even SEE the post in the first place, never click on the "Reply To This Post", spend 20 minutes writing a carefully thought-out and deelightfuly insightful reply, and then have my words rejected without even having been considered!
REAL LIFE EXAMPLE
Let's say there's a person standing on a street corner, shouting out "Someone help me! I'm lost! I need help! Can anyone help me? ANYONE??? Anyone at all? Why doesn't anyone care?" Being the nice, caring guy that I am, I stop by and listen to this person go on and on abou their problem, and how they are so full of woe over the fact that absolutely NO ONE in the ENTIRE WORLD will even stop to listen or help. I open my mouth to offer words of condolence when suddenly the person just turns away from me. Without even looking at me, they say "Not *you*... I only want my FRIENDS to offer me help. How *dare* you try to comment n my problems?"
And then they punch me in the nutsack and cntinue to yell out about their problems and how upset they are that absolutely NO ONE will help them.
So in short, please, if it's something you only want your frinds to comment on? Make it a Friends Only post. Thanks!

Date: 2005-01-10 06:28 pm (UTC)The tone of most of your stuff isn't so much that you want comments, but rather you just want to get it out so it's out there. Am i wrong?

Date: 2005-01-10 10:50 pm (UTC)I just have to double check it isn't that asshat that was harassing me and have to subject the people who are reading my journal to his idiotic words.
(I know the post wasn't about *me* in general, but I am just defending why someone would. I know how you love to debate. ;) )

Date: 2005-01-10 11:09 pm (UTC)Maybe it's just me. When I say something *publicly*, it's because I'm open to comments from *anyone*. If I only want comments from my friends, I make it friends only.

Date: 2005-01-10 11:44 pm (UTC)Have you used the Friends Screen? Have you ever received some srt of "There is a reply to your post waiting to be approved" message? And if so, doesn't that sort of negate the first argument wherein you would use the screen in order to avoid having to read comments frm the asshats who were harrassing you?

Date: 2005-01-10 11:49 pm (UTC)Actually I said
I just have to double check it isn't that asshat that was harassing me and have to subject the people who are reading my journal to his idiotic words.
So, no it doesn't negate it at all. :P
I guess there is more than one type of screening then. When someone comments, I get an email that I have to unscreen the comment if I want others to see it.
I guess it would make sense there is more than one type of screening. Silly me!

Date: 2005-01-10 09:07 pm (UTC)Yeah... wicked irritating. Maybe the public posts are to impart information, but they really don't want any feedback about it?

Date: 2005-01-10 10:55 pm (UTC)But do they use that? NO!
They use the Non-Friends screen. They basicaly want EVERYONE to *see* their problem, but only want the positive feedback from people they know will give them the feedback they want to hear.
EXAMPLE:
THE POST: "I'm so depressed and it's all because of my significant other and I miss them so much and I think I might do something drastic"
Person "A" replies "Oh no! Don't do something drastic! We all love you!"
Person "B" replies "Oh PLEASE give it a BREAK, you Drama Queen! You know that the only time you ever did anything 'drastic' was that time you tried to commit suicide by taking a whole bottle of Children's Chewable Asprin"
Person "B", of course, will be un-friended very quick, to be followed by the ambiguous "Some people just don't know what friendship is... sme people throw away trust like it means noting to them", and other such angsty passages.
I just got done weeding a bunch of these people off my Friends List. Everyone who is still on is safe (for the most part), but MAN do I get tired of it!
