I suggest laying the comics out to get some air for a day or two and then add a few dryer sheets put between the comics in the box. This will help the smell some. Febreze also works wonders if lightly sprayed. Empty the box and hose it down with Febreze while the books are airing out too. It probably soaked up a lot of the whiff and that will help keep it from coming back.
