SO ANGRY!!!

I haven't read anything this stupidly infuriating in quite a while, but saw it posted a a "Status Update" on Facebook. It's just... I can't...
Shame on you America: the only country where we have homeless veterans without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment - yet we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations. 99% of people won't have the guts to copy and paste this, ......it's a shame!!!

I think it really speaks for itself, doesn't it? The only thing I'd change about it is that last line... "99% of people won't have the guts to copy and paste this BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT THAT STUPID!

After trying to figure out exactly what it is that i want to say about this, it's made me come to appreciate it a bit more. It's a great little tool for seeing in to how THEY work. Not Republicans, not Democrats, but your Stereotypical, Average, Stupid, Lazy American. The unwashed masses that are used by both political parties to achieve their end goals. The ones who voted for Obama because he had a cool poster and a snappy slogan. The ones who voted for Bush because if we didn't then The Terrorists had already won. The ones who are "Undecided" not because they need more time to study their choices, but because they want to see who all their frineds are gonna vote for.

In their world, we Americans really ARE the picked-on Nation. The ONLY country where there are homeless veterans. The ONLY country with starving children. The ONLY country without Socialized Health Care. The ONLY country with crazy people who go untreated.

And they really don't see why we should help a place like Haiti. After all, they don't have any homeless vets, healthcare issues, mentqal illness or starving children. All THEY had was an iddy-biddy Earthquake. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA POOR HAITI! Well guess what, Haiti? My 401k got wiped-out last year, so SUCK IT! Things are tough all over!

This... this is the world that THEY live in, isn't it?

And the worst part is, 99% of people won't have the guts to copy and paste this :(

dude my sister posted that as her status and it makes me want to go all stabby.

because last time i checked, where she should be living in a gutter somewhere, she has lots of handy dandy government checks and they even paid for her school.

so yeah, idgi.

that type of shit has me not like social networking at all.

i donated $20 to Haiti, between 3 different charities via my cellphone.

AND i provide a home & care for a disabled, crazy-ass marine.

I wonder what that Facebooker does every day to make the world better...

She updates her Facebook status with bullcrap :)

[identity profile] nani-ka.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it does amuse us so when you are moved to pen rants of this caliber... I suppose that could count towards her making the world better.

[identity profile] dreaming-faerie.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Omg I was scared when I saw that dreaded facebook crap on your post, but you renewed my faith. Thank you!

I'm lucky no one I know updated with shit like that, but I'm waiting for the day. And when that day comes, there will be much facepalming. And headdesking.

Omg what is wrong with the world?? My husband was rolling his eyes a little at people who are SO keen on helping because they think that only NOW does Haiti need our help, when hello, they've needed help for years. And of course, there are other countries who have poverty that could use help.

But! I still think it's better to be woken up to world problems and suddenly start helping, start SOMEWHERE, than sit on your ass and complain about helping a country that desperately needs help. Seriously, how do people justify their weird existences? These are the same people who think Obama is a Muslim, which of course makes him a terrorist, and the people who think Haiti had an earthquake because they made a deal with the devil. WTF is wrong with everyone??

You help people in need no matter where they are, because it's the fucking right thing to do. That person who posted that probably does nothing to help vets or starving children in America, either... It's ridiculous.

While I agree with what you are saying, I think the original intent with that was to point out that most Americans go throughout their lives doing squat to help out our own people yet something bad happens somewhere else and all of the sudden there are telethons and other drives to donate all over the place. If Hollywood and politicians put as much time into encouraging us to help homeless veterans, hungry children, etc then those problems would not exist.

[identity profile] captain-slinky.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
If that's so, they did it *wrong*. I can't think of a time I've seen any cause gain any support by having the followers shout "How DARE you give money to THAT cause when there are so many other causes out there?"

[identity profile] cunninggod.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree it was done wrong...at least it has some of us smarter folk thinking about how to do it right :)

SO ANGRY!!!

I can see where you're coming from with your interpretation. But if that wa the point, maybe it could have come across better with links to domestic charities. Rather than trying to shame those who are giving, or lumping "everyone" who gives to Haiti in the same group (people who only give during disasters, and not regularly or locally).

AGREED!! :) Maybe we should come up with a plan to do something like that

SO ANGRY!!!

[identity profile] schizoauthoress.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not on FB, but I can post something on MySpace when I get home...

It should be positive, like, "thank you, everyone who has given to the Haiti relief efforts! If you'd also like to help out a little closer to home, don't forget about the charitable causes that help our own less fortunate..." with links for charities that help hungry children, the elderly in need of assistance, homeless vets, etc... One for each of the things the original 'shaming' message tries to use to make us feel bad.

[identity profile] zachary-cole.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I hate those "shaming" message. Hell, I even hate pro-Haiti relief shame messages. Why? Because they're always cut-and-paste jobs. If you care about an issue, at least take the time to write a damn sentence about it.*

I BET 93.9% OF PEOPLE ON THIS COMMENT THERAD ARE TOO POO-POO-HEADY TO REPLY TO THIS!!!

* Or at least check out this great website that's actually helping people. Just got the chapbook in the mail. Ten dollars well spent:

I agree with you 100% on this. I saw someone post that BS status yesterday & it filled me with rage over how fucking absurd people want to make themselves sound. Way to help out your fellow man, assholes. Shouldn't matter WHERE they come from.
