Nearly driven to the use of Profanity.

Every time I'm sick for more than 3 days, Crystal insists on calling a Nurse to see what we should do.

EVERY STINKIN' TIME we do this, the Nurse says "You need to go to The Emergency Room NOW".

So last night we went to The Emergency Room fr my sleepiness, headache, tummy ache and weirdly sore hands.

Diagnosis was Dehydration and "a Virus". Go home, sleep, plenty of liquids, blah blah blah... all of this after an X-Ray, MRI and an IV full of some drug that I had an "Adverse Reaction" to.

My plan had already been to just stay at home, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids...

A screwy part of our litigious society. Covering bases means spending tons of extra cash and making people who need fluids go to the emergency room and then pay bills for things that weren't really illnesses. Bites me a lot.

I want a doctor who I can go to who will say, "BUCK UP! SHUT UP! DRINK WATER AND LAY DOWN!"

But knowing my luck, that'd be the one time I have the illness only House can diagnose that has the symptom of one runny nose and a hangnail.

Yeah. I just let everything run, never go to the doctor... So I'm guaranteed to get 51-hour Ebola and explode in a welter of blood in some socially embarassing scenario. Maybe a Bar Mitzvah.

Of course that's what the nurse is going to say. That's all she legally *can* say.

Unless there's absolutely nothing wrong with you and she can tell that over the phone, they're instructed to direct you to the ER where a qualified medical expert can examine you to determine that there's nothing wrong with you that time won't cure.

We have the same problem with our dail-a-nurse here for the military hospital.
