Look! Up in the Sky! It's...

Aint It Cool News.com has an article today announcing that the casting for a NEW Superman movie has been narrowed down to either an unknown Soap-Opera guy, or Brendan Fraser.

(CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES OF THE SOAP-OPERA GUY AND THE ENTIRE ARTICLE)

Brendan Fraser.... wow. Many have been the nights that our geeky conversations have turned to the subject of the "Perfect" Superman casting. One night, we had almost all agreed that Brendan Fraser would be the *perfect* Superman... except for one problem. Brendan Fraser is too much Brendan Fraser.

In all his movies, it's not "Brendan Fraser as George of The Jungle", it's "Brendan Fraser as Brendan Fraser if Brendan Fraser were George of The Jungle", you know what I mean? No matter what role he plays, it's 1-part character and 9-parts Brendan. And that's just too much Brendan to be The Man Of Steel.

This (largely) unknown Soap Opera guy, though... he's got the look! Piercing blue eyes (almost Alien), squared jaw (but not too square), an athletic body-type, and no type-cast acting style. Much like Christopher Reeves was, this guy would be a blank canvas on which the film makers could paint the perfect portrayal of Superman.

Now, now... remember what happened *Last* time... you get the eyes, and then you have to dispose of the rest of the body!

Yes, his eyes are rather piercing... just the way I always imagined Superman's alien eyes would look! It's why that kid on "Smallville" is so good for the role... he's got those soulfull, piercing, perfect eyes!

I LOVE BRENDAN FRASER
He is perfect for every role. He IS the PERFECT male specimen. He is...a GOD!

(I have a little crush on the man, you see. Just a tiny one.)

I would like to see him taken seriously as a dramatic actor since he has talent. Unfortunately, all of his dramatic movies flopped while most of his actions and comedies have been well received. But anyone who has seen School Ties knows the guy has the goods, both as an actor and as a male specimen. (Also starring a then unknown Matt Damon as well as Ben Affleck as a extra in a couple of scenes.)

Alright, I'll stop drooling over the man...for now.

Yeah, but did you follow the link and *look* at the kid they want to have play Superman? My bread ain't toasted on that side (ifyaknowwhatImean), but for a side order of that, I'd be asking for extra jelly!

There was another guy?

Well, he doesn't bark...but he is no Brendan! Plus, he's too skinny. Brendan has a body closer to that of the Superman in the comics. (Well as close as a real human person can get anyway.)

Well now that depends on which version you're going for. It wasn't until John Byrne's re-vamping of the whole Superman legend back in the 80's ("The Man Of Steel" Mini-Series) that they decided Clark Kent/Superman should even *have* Muscles! Before then, he had always been an average looking person. This made it much easier for him to blend in with the regular humans without suspiscion. Heck, that's why no one thought Superman and Clark Kent were the same person... he was just so average! He could have been Clark, or any one of a thousand different guys around Metropolis!

Ok, I'll give you that. But what about the cartoon Superman from the 30's & 40's? That guy was Buff!

Yea baby!

The Fleischer Cartoons of the 40's? He was kinda buff I guess, but not "ripped".

I'm still all in favor of this new kid to play Superman. I think it's the direction that they need to take the license.
