My daughter is BRILLIANT

Last night Molly was dancing around the living room with a light saber and I asked her which she would rather learn - Dancing or Sword-Fighting. She responded with "I know... LIGHTSABER BALLET!!!"

And so now I'm wondering; ARE there classes for kids that teach sword dancing (like in the video below), or is it just something that folks make-up as they go along? And if so, which types of classes does she need to take? Dance or Swordplay???

I used to date a guy who did "lightsaber ballet," he was a martial artist and used to do kata with a sword. Sure was cool to watch...

Your daughter is awesome.
You and I should collaborate on making her a customized fullsize saber for a birthday.

We already have about half-a-doen full-size lightsabers in this household (YE GAWDS but I do so love Thrift Stores)!

Yes, but all replicas of existing hilts, correct? I'm talking about a personalized, custom build made just for her.

Hmmmm... we've got one that's from the Saber Workshop at Disneyland, where you get to put your own saber together from about a dozen different pieces of existing hilts...

Yes, but does she have one that lights up PINK?

Now THAT would be impressive :)

Now we're talking. Also: Scrolling LED effect for lightsaber ballet or hollowblade for actual serious dueling? (LED scroll can handle light dueling.)

I think if she gets kendo training and ballet training, she'll eventually be able to put the two together.

I would totally want to see this. It's one of the best ideas I've ever heard.

another possibility is a college class in dramatic combat... teaching Shakespearean actors how to swing a sword

That's exactly the conclusion I've come to after an entire morning of Googling :) I wonder if they teach Stage Combat to kids?

they do if you enroll the kid in the college class! Or you could ask the teacher to host a one night class and invite your kid's nerdy friends.

or rather, you host the class, and invite the teacher and pay them

looks like that youtube video uses the chinese sword fighting style which to me looks a lot like dancing. I don't know the name of the style though
