Disneyland’s Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Soarin’ Closed Indefinitely Due to OSHA Citation

You guys all read this, right? After FIFTY YEARS, in a scene reminiscent to the "Shut It All Down" scene from Ghostbustrs, the folks at OSHA decided that the lack of secondary back-up hand rails on back-stage areas that went over heigts of more than 30 inches. The inspection was prompted by an accident last November where an outside contractor (hired to clean The Matterhorn) slipped and suffered from what were reportedly "Slight Injuries".

Let that sink in. Back stage (no guests are at risk). Fifty Years. One "slight" accident 5 months ago. Th situation wasn't severe enough to get the inspectors there for almost half a year, but it IS severe enough to force the immediate and indefinite closure of three major attractions right in the middle of the busiest Spring Break season.

Sounds like SOMEBODY forgot to grease I few palms down at the OSHA offices, or maybe somebody had an axe to grind?

Your love of all things Disney has blinded you to the truth. ;-) Disney recently became the owner of Star Wars. What is Star Wars constantly lampooned about? Deep chasms with inadequate hand rails.

That was all fine with Lucas at the helm but Mickey Mouse recognizes that what was fine for 50 years doesn't work now that the spotlight of Imperial incompetence is aimed right at Space Mountain.

Sure, today it is a contractor slipping, but tomorrow it could be Goofy going heels over head to his doom in a hilarious but tragic banana peel accident.

:D

Seriously though, if they can transform the park to completely new seasonal decorations overnight I doubt it is going to take them long to get their rides in compliance with state law. There is money on the line after all and this is Disney we are talking about.

They shut down Space Mountain for not being able to immediately produce five years worth of maintenance records for Space Mountain's air conditioning system to the Cal/OSHA inspector.

Or, as Darth OSHA put it, "I find your lack of Air Conditioning System Maintenance Records disturbing..."
