Yesterday included the first of many Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Express showings that Molly and I will be attending this summer. Tuesday and Wednesday, 10:00, some flick that's already on DVD for $1. We chose to see "Ice Age: Continental Drift" which SO FAILED the Bechdel Test! It made me all squirmy and ashamed that I was taking my daughter to it :( Female characters were only there to either love the man, or talk about how they love the man. I could almost see the message saturating itself in to Molly's subconscious, "Oh so when I get older everything I do will be about trying to get a boy to love me! Got it! I'll have no identity of my own! HOORAY!"

Little things every day make me realize just how extremely lucky I am to be an overweight, white, borderline-poverty level, American, heterosexual, middle-aged man. I have the easiest, most care-free kind of life that anyone on this planet can possibly have.

I need to get to some of those movies. Maybe we can do a team up.

Sounds good! We play it all loosey-goosey since it's Summer and all... if we're awake and ready we go see the flick, and if not we just wait till the next day or next week :)

I don't think we ever have to worry about Molly not having her own identity. She has always been her own little person

I'm so glad to see a dad aware of these issues. Good for you!

So, if you didn't know this already, avoid Oz the Great and Powerful; I felt bad that my 8-year-old girl went to that one with me...

Already saw it, it' already a big joke in our family about how terrible it was! Like, hey it was *pretty* and all, but c'mon... the most powerful woman in Oz is helpless without a con-man? And the most evil person only becomes evil after ONE DAY with The Man? ANd she needs a BOOB WINDOW IN HER PURITAN SCHOOLMARM WITCH OUTFIT?!?!? And the PORCELAIN GIRL!!! WOMEN ARE SO FRAGILE!!!

Okay, I'm getting all ragey now... need to breathe...

Don't dis the China Girl...she was the smartest one in the whole movie. A few re-runs of Mulan and Brave will counter the IA: CD. At least Molly can get some positives from the Ice Age series. Friendly co-operation between disparate groups can lead to longer lives.

And just think, in the Victorian Age, you would be just about at the end of your life-cycle. Average lifespan for a middle class or lower male was 45. It's a pretty good time to be alive in the US right now.

Just think of the fun to be had!
