Parenting Crisis AVERTED thanks to The Internet!

Molly came home tonight wanting to watch Ke$sha and Mikki Manage music videos, barely appropriate listening material for an 8-year-old. Not that we really censor much, mind you, it's just... it's just not really good music imho.

So I used The Internet to... bend... her preferences.

First, I fulfilled her requests for Ke$ha, then slid backwards to some Spice Girls. From there we moved over to Averil Lavigne and did her career *backwards*, starting at "Hello Kitty" then going to "Rock And Roll Will Never Die" and ending on "Sk8er Boi".

Molly, having now gone full-on GIRL ROCK POWER, was now ready to move on to my true target, the Godmother of all Bad-Ass Rock-N-Roll Girl Power - JOAN JETT.

She loved Joan Jett, but as soon as we watched the video for "I Hate Myself For Loving You", she had a hankerin' for some Michael Jackson (understandable if you've ever seen the video), and that's where we end the night with the King Of Pop.

I'll accept it!

I approve! Give her what she wants but not without giving her selection of things that are actually good. A+ parenting.

Personally, I find the Ke$ha songs pretty funny. While not full on Rock, or entirely GIRL ROCK, might I suggest Vixy and Tony and Seanan McGuire for a well rounded musical experience? She'll LOVE 'Siren Song', and will get some food for thought from 'Wicked Girls'.

Joan Jett is definitely one of the Godmothers of Rock-N-Roll Girl Power.

Well done!

Don't forget Pat Benatar. I'd put her up near the top of the list for having some good strong girl power rock songs.

Pat Benetar was going to be the next stop after Joan Jett, followed by Kate Bush, but I couldn't ignore a request for Michael Jackson :)
