Killing Zod would have been a great resolution for if Zod were fighting Batman, agreed - but this was a SUPERMAN movie! On that FEATURED as a MAIN PLOT POINT a FUNCTIONAL PHANTOM ZONE.
I don't agree that it could have been much much much worse... maybe one much, but not three. ANd even at one much, I'm hard-pressed to think of exctly *how* it could have been worse...
