111 - Fourteen

captain_slinkyCrystal and I have three anniversaries every year; September 6th (the day we got married), the Week of Thanksgiving (the first time she flew here from Ohio so we could meet face-to-face and say to each other "Don't get attached"), and May 5th (the day she packed up her life to fly across the country and live with me because we forgot to not get attached).
Of the three, May 5th is the most important.
The wedding thing is okay, it gave us a piece of paper that says The Government recognizes us as a couple. The first meeting thing is better, it gave us a lifetime of fun stories to tell others about how we fell in love. But May 5th, the day we moved in together... THAT was literally LIFE CHANGING.
On May 5th 2001, Crystal and I decided to combine two unremarkable potentials and turn them in to something incredible. I had resigned myself to a lonely life of living in people's guest bedrooms or on couches just so I could feel I was a part of something other than my own depression, and she had settled on the life of a small-town Factory Worker who's biggest challenge would be deciding which one of the three local bars she should spend her paycheck at on Friday night each week.
On May 5th, that changed forever! She was the girl who took a chance on love and flew to the other side of the country to live with a guy she had only ever met face-to-face TWICE! I was the guy who took a chance and signed a lease on an apartment so he and his Internet Girlfriend could live together!
We both took a HUGE GAMBLE that we weren't just trying to harvest each other's vital organs for sale on the black market, and it paid off!
We took those two unremarkable, somewhat depressing potential futures and braided them in to a 1990's rat tail of AWESOME that now dangles triumphantly from our Marriage Mullet! We are a TEAM the likes of which no one has ever witnessed before! We are constantly amazed with each other!
I think our secret is that all we want, either one of us, is to please and delight the other. Everything we do, we do for each other. I don't think either one of us has ever done anything for ourselves, because we know that our partner will do it for us :)
