I THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH THIS CRAP BACK IN THE 90'S!!! But there it was this morning on the KCPQ13 Morning News! A teenage girl DEMANDING that they remove Huck Finn from the libraries because it uses "The 'N' Word".

The school this girl goes to (in Renton) already dealt with this problem back in the Politically Correct days by making the book non-mandatory. It is part of the reading curriculum, but any child who is offended or does not want to read it can choose an alternate assignment. BUT THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THIS GIRL!!! SHE WANTS THE BOOK ENTIRELY BANNED!!!

I guess that if you obliterate every copy of Huck Finn, it will mean that Slavery and "The 'N' Word" and Slavery will have never existed?

"Mommy, who was Harriet Tubman?"

"Oh, Harriet Tubman was a great woman! She helped do something for people who never existed, in a time that never happened, freeing them from somethign that didn't exist but was still very bad."

We won't be done with the whole PC revolution until people aren't so eager to be offended. It never ended, really...I mean, we still have the big "prayer in school" deal (oh yes, because it's such a big deal to bow your head and listen to other people pray), and you're still a horrible person if you say anything negative about anybody that's a different race. For example, say "Stupid americans!" and you'll get some funny looks but nobody will be really outraged. Say "Stupid latinos!" and you're almost guaranteed to get an angry tirade from some PC asshole. It's stupid to say either, but it's also stupid to get more upset about one than the other, since they both apply an insult to a large group of people. Let's face it...PC is, frustratingly enough, here to stay.

Hold on..

I don't think you should lump prayer in school with the PC bullshit. I don't think it's offensive because I'm one religion or another; I think it's wrong because it's un-Constitutional. Allowing prayer in church is basically the state endorsing one religion over another, and that's specifically against the Constitution, and really the reason the country was founded.
Why can't they all just settle on a moment of silent prayer? That way all people can pray however they want.

I'm all for the silent prayer thing... but when I come to the Live Sacrifice part of it, no matter how stealthy I try to be, I ALWAYS interrupt the class with the squeeling and bawking of the dying chicken. But hey, what are ya gonna do? Ba'Al demands blood!

Our money also says "In God We Trust" on it, and there's references to God in the Decleration of Independence, and not all religions worship the God it's referring to, so I guess the Declaration of Independence is unconstitutional? The problem isn't whether or not the government endorses a religion, it's whether or not the government forces a religion on the people, and I don't really consider having to listen to a prayer or two forcing religion on me.

Note that prayer in a school wasn't even much of an issue until the PC age hit us and everybody was eager to be offended by something not being phrased right. Instead of focusing on larger issues, like our government's hypocrisy regarding legal and illegal drugs, or the way that corporations based in the US treat other countries, or any of a number of other things that should demand attention, we're running around worrying about how things are put.

Dear Captain Slinky,

I'm afraid your last post offended me, and although normally I don't like to make an issue out of these things, your casual reference to 'Huck Finn' could be offensive to a 'LOT' of ignorant people. Classic literature generally has a lot to answer for, and I for one, think its time we stop discriminating against individuals who wouldn't know a good book if it was rammed through their monkey like brains.

(I apologise to monkeys everywhere)

Personally, I'm offended by the entire nation of Afghanistan for the terrible atrocioties they performed against the United States. I would like to have it removed from all Maps and Globes IMMEDIATELY. Are you WITH me, or are you some sort of Al Queda-lover? Huh, PUNK???

Ooh yeah... I think i could get me some free publicity over this!
