BIRTHDAY MADNESS!!!
May. 13th, 2002 11:06 amSo we went up t my parents place in Anacortes for Mothers Day, and it was... interesting? Nah, it was good. But with bad stuff. Let me expalin.
First, the good. We were going up to spend the day with my parents because *my* birthday was on the 8th, *Crystal's* birthday will on Tuesday (14th), and Mother's Day fell right in between the two. So what the hey? We went up there and had a Birthy-Mom's Day! We showed up at about 11 AM to find that my brother (Butch) and his family (Wife Heidi, daughters Haley and Hannah) all ready there. It was good, I always enjoy hanging out with Butch and his kin! So we got out of the car, gave gifts to my Mom (a 1940's frosted bud vase and a Marilyn Monroe clock), and then Crystal & I were bombarded with gifts.
All the presents from my parents were wrapped in One Dollar Bills! Keen!
So the booty I came away with was a Marvel Comics "Beast" model, a Spiderman Movie Poster, a package of new socks, and a gravy boat. I know.. it sounds like the ingredients for a bomb on MacGuyver.
So then, since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to play Tonk (a card game simmilar to Rummy, only quick, dirty, and for money) out under a tree in the front yard. And for dinner, we planned to have Lazagna and Hot Dogs. Yes, it seemed like it was going to be a great day!
Then Beth showed up.
Beth is my alcoholic older sister. She's been through Rehab countless times, 4 interventions, and a gazillion "Fresh New Starts". She showed up *very* drunk, and managed to bring the party to a screaching halt. My poor mom was so upset over how Beth was... and she finally took Beth aside and asked her to leave. She told Beth that she wished they could get together some time when Beth was sober, but that wasn't going to happen. Beth cried. Butch hid from the situation, refusing to even say Hi to Beth. And the garlic bread got burnt.
Once Beth left, things got better. We ate, we talked, we watched a Mariners game on TV. And then Crystal and I came home. But before we got home, we decided to stop by a drive-in theater and catch a double-feature of "Panic Room" and "Blade 2"... but that will be covered in a seperate post.
