It's one o' them Zippidee Doo-Dah Days!
Feb. 23rd, 2005 09:31 pmDisney's long-banished classic Song Of The South is finally gettig released on DVD!
khristle and I had the chance to watch an illegal copy of the film a few months back, and we were shocked that it hadn't been released for American audiences yet. It was the first time in a LONG time that a *Disny* film (not Pixar) actually made me laugh out loud, care, and think. All in all, a simply wonderful movie!
Yes, it features a "Disnified" version of The South where slaves were happy to be slaves (forget that the setting of the film is during the reconstruction period after the war, when many slaves actaully *were* happy because they were no longer slaves so much as poorly treated, poorly paid, abused workers... but they were FREE). But why is anyone shocked that Disney would have made a cuddly version of The South? He made a SKUNK happy about being a SKUNK, for gosh sakes, why can't he go ahead and let a black person be happy to be a black person?
