Saving Molly
Dec. 6th, 2006 09:34 pmComing out of The Doctor's Office today carrying Molly in my arms, I tripped on the curb and tweisted my ankle something fierce. I'm not a small man (400lbs according to the doctor - thank goodness he's my doc for the Lap Band surgery early next year), and when I fall down I FALL. DOWN. Usually such a twist in my ankle would have brought me flat on my face in the middle of the parking lot, but the angle of the curb in relationship to our car would have PROBABLY resulted in my my head being twisted in to positions it was not designed to go in, snapping my neck in the process.
Luckilly, I was holding Molly.
My desire to keep her out of harm's way probably saved both our lives, since had I NOT twisted and snapped and stretched in such a way as to cushion her fall, she would have been crushed between the cold, hard parking lot and 400 pounds of Cap'n Slinky meat.
I am very proud that I was able to fight my natural instinct of "just go limp and take whatever bruises may occour" in order to save my Molly! I've got a big-old "Superman" complex and have always wondered if I woudl REALLY have what it takes to sacrifice myself for the good of a loved one, and now I know I *DO* have that in me! And it also ended up saving ME in the long run!
Two twisted ankles, banged-up knees and a skinned elbow... so I've got plenty of wounds to remind me of my heroic deed :)
