Sep. 22nd, 2008 12:42 pmMy own personal belief; let's see if this gets circulated at all. I think it's fair and balanced even though The Republicans are compared to The Evil Empire.
The Liberal Democrats version of Government is Star Trek/The Federation; The Conservative Republicans version is Star Wars/The Empire.
The Dems are in a clean and shiney optimistic universe where there is apparently no poverty or hunger. As long as you're a member of The Federation, The Federation will take care of you! Replicators and holodecks for everyone, making sure that your every need and desire is filled. And when they DO hit a pocket of resistance or some bad guys (Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi, Borg) who DON'T want to be a part of that they are confused and dumbstruck without an idea of how to deal with it. it takes a lot of ingenuity and luck to avoid getting blown up!
The Reps live in a dirtier, more realistic universe. Dessert planets full of slaves and untrustable aliens are around every corner. They're under constant attack by Rebel Forces (mostly pirates, terrorists and dissenting members of The Empire). The only way to succeed in their universe is through lies and manipulation, trying to change the system from the inside yet getting corrupted by it yourself and, of course, putting a lot of faith in ancient all-powerful religions.
Then there's The Green Party, which is like, I dunno... Plan 9 From Outer-Space?
