My Talented Daughter
Sep. 18th, 2013 08:03 amMy nieces are all familiar with "The Wake-Up Song". When they spend the night at our house the night before some big event (usually ComiCon), they know that I'll be waking them up at 4:30 in the morning singing the following:
The name changes depending on who I'm singing to, of course. The FIRST singing of the song usually gets a mumbled, bleary-eyed response, so I start again because they KNOW what I'm looking for.
A slightly more coherent response, maybe even a sleep-shouted "I'M UP" or, on occasion, an obscenity or two.
I then say "Awwwww, so close! But we all know the proper response, right? When I sing
YOU need to respond with (and I do this part in a Mickey-Mouse voice)
So let's try this AGAIN! Iiiiiiiiit's TIME FOR YOU TO RIIIIIIISE..."
And I keep repeating till they say back to me "OKAY BRIAN I'M AWAKE LET'S BRUSH OUR $&$ING TEETH AND START THE (&%#$ING DAY" and then I smile and thank them and continue to be aggressively happy at them till they are dressed and ready to go. It works!
So every morning when I wake up Molly for school, I sing to her. And my kid, she shuts me *DOWN*.
ME: "Iiiiiit's TIME for you to RIIIIIISE, get UP and rub your EYYYYYYES, get up-Wake Up! Molly, Molly, PLEASE wake up! It's time to start our day!"
MOLLY: *FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART*
Now this would be funny if she had she done it just *once*, but it's EVERY WEEKDAY MORNING! EVERY DAY!!!
She makes me so proud :)
It's time for you to rise!
Get up and rub your eyes!
Get up - Wake up!
Hannah! Hannah! Please wake up! It's time to start the day..."
