I've been trying to get the radio in my inheritance to work ("My Inheritance" being my Dad's 1987 Dodge Dakota Pick-Up Truck). It still had the factory original AM/FM Digital Radio in it, but it had a Roulette Temper. Spin the wheel, see what you get!
- Fully Functional AM/FM Radio!
- No Sound, Digital Display Showing Some Weird Message In Klingon!
- 12:00 On The Digital Display And Loud Static That You Can't Turn Off!
- 12:00 On The Display And No Sound At All!
- The most likely result with a five-to-one ratio of likelihood, NOTHING!
Whenever I would ask my Dad about it (it had been like this for YEARS), he would just shake his head and say something noncommittal about how it never really worked anyways, just be happy for the times that it *does* work.
Not content to just be happy with what I had, I put "New Stereo For The Truck" *waaaaaaaay up high* on my Christmas List this year. And I got one! Real nice one, too! So I went and I installed it in the truck, annnnnd...
And it works like a portable radio that you just put dead batteries in. I start up the truck, the display *very dimly* displays "1200am" and then fades to completely off within a matter of seconds. No sound, ever.
SINCE it's an electrical problem and I only have one solution ever for any electrical-based automotive problems, I checked the fuse box. Checked the manual on-line before doing this so I knew what I was looking for, and here's what I found: The fuse for the radio was in upside-down (shouldn't make a difference), and only plugged in half-way. I took it out, inspected it (doesn't look burned out to me), flipped it around and shoved it all the way in.
Now I get *nothing* from the radio at all, not even the faint glow.
So anywho, that's the build-up to the Big Question - could a bad fuse really DO something like that? Could a bad fuse make a direct electrical connection act like a dead battery? Should I just go ahead and get another fuse, see what happens? Or does this sound liek some bigger problem and I should just work on making a mount for my tablet and some speakers for my music needs?
