"The Quest" is a new Fantasy/Reality Show that starts tonight (I think?) and I'm interested if for no other reason than DUDE THEY JUST MADE A LARP GAME SHOW!!! The way it's described, with different contestants having different quests going on at the same time and all... it sounds kind of awesome!

But LORDY how I hate Reality TV Shows. There are really just three "Deal Breakers" that they could do which will drive me away from this show; any two of them and I'll be forced to drop it:
  • "CONFESSIONAL BOOTHS" - If they cut from the story to do a bunch of out-of-character interviews with the contestants, I'm done. "So they had Becky and i try to scale the tower, and I *knew* this was going to be hard but I knew that all I had to do was beat Becky to the top" - HATE THAT STUFF.
  • ANNOYING NARRATION - I despise the constant play-by-play narration that goes on with most Reality TV. "Tom is here to announce the next challenge..." THE NEXT CHALLENGE IS ARCHERY! "The next Challenge is Archery! Becky seems confident, but Tom doesn't seem so sure..." I AM TOM AND I AM UNSURE ABOUT THIS "With Becky confident and Tom feeling a bit unsure, it's time for the Archery Challenge to begin" IT'S TIME FOR THE ARCHERY CHALLENGE TO BEGIN!
  • FOCUS ON REALITY OVER FANTASY - Half the show might end up being dedicated to the "reality" of it all and that would turn me off. "Becky is about to do the Archery Challenge, let's learn more about Becky... HI I'M BECKY AND I'M A SINGLE MOM FROM DETROIT MICHIGAN! HERE IS MY WORK PLACE! HERE IS MY WACKY KID! HERE ARE MY HOBBIES WHICH HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS SHOW!

Other than that, Im stoked!

So here's a fun game I've been playing this morning, which I am calling "Obammenting". You choose a website with open comment forums such as YouTube, Huffington Post, Fox News, CNN, etc, and you pick an article or video to make the center of this round.

Got one? Good.

Now read/watch the content and make a guess as to how many comments you will be able to read before finding one that off-topically "blames" the "problem" on Obama, Gays, Gun Control or anything else that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Trust me, there's going to be one. You get "Points" for however many comments there are that stay on topic, up to and including the number you chose. HOWEVER, if you hit an "Obamment" before your number is up, you get *no points*

EXAMPLE: Video of two sleepy kittens cuddling. Over 300 comments. I choose 7 as my Obamment number. All the comments are "Awwwwww" and "So sweet" all the way up till the 14th comment, which is n all-caps "THIS IS Y OBUMMER NEED TO IMPEECH GAY CATS R SIN JESUS". For this round, I get 7 points.

EXAMPLE: Article about Kevin Costner returning to the big screen. I choose 7 as my Obamment number. The third comment is a spam ad with a link to Vapor Cigarettes. For this round, I get zero.

EXAMPLE: Article about outbreak of deadly new virus. I choose 7 as my Obamment number. Comment #5 is about how this is a secret Obamacare conspiracy, THAT is okay and it slides. However, the reply to that comment, which is "OBAMA SUX DIX", is comment #6 and though it is related to the comment, it is not related to the article itself. For this round, I get 6 points.

So this is weird... every report I hear coming in from last weekend's San Diego Comic Con is that nobody had a good time there. At the most, people are reporting that they had a good time *despite* the convention.

That's really weird, and I don't like it :(
