Don Knotts, RIP
Feb. 25th, 2006 05:01 pmDon Knotts, dead at 81.
My first experience with Don Knotts was not through The Andy Griffith Show, but through the film The Incredible Mr. Limpet. "I wish, I wish... I wish I were a fish!" was one of the first movie lines I bothered to memorize. Then later on in life my sitcom introduction to him was two-fold, as I started seeing him on new episdoes of Threes Company and reruns of The Andy Griffith Show almost simultaneously thanks to some very clever syndication. The man always played the same character type, but what he was able to DO with those characters; taking them throught he entire spectrum of "Geek" characters; it's just incredible! Barney Fife and Ralph Furley are in essence the exact same characters, yet completely different! It takes a very special actor to be able to pull that off.
