Garfield knows he should hide when John comes home drunk. John is a mean drunk. Sometimes Garfield just locks himself in the bathroom and cries himself to sleep listening to John thrashing around the house looking for him. But then the next day John is all sweet and he brings a pan of lasagna and he's the John that Garfield fell in love with in the first place. John swears that things will be different this time. And it's all good... for about two weeks. But then one night John is late coming home and Garfield tries to push all those negative thoughts out of his head. "He probably just stopped by the market to get some smokes... or maybe he got a job and hasn't had a chance to call me yet and tell me the great news!" But then Garfield hears the tell-tale squeeling of tires turning in to the driveway too fast, and the painfull crunch of a bumper hitting the garbage cans. John slams the car door and starts a stream of slurred obscenities that let's Garfield know he should get upstairs, fast.

Garfield knows he should get help, but he can't help it... he LOVES John!
