Why?

Why do shower-farts smell so much worse than regular farts? Is it the confined space? The moist-n-humid environment? The cascade of soapy water running down the crack of your ass?

I've always wondered.

Is there any scientific reason for this???

And of course, GOOGLE has been ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS in my search for answers YET AGAIN :(

Its the confined space. The gases released don't have a way to dissipate, and also you're standing RIGHT THERE, rather than being able to walk away - which also creates convection in the air currents which further encourages dissipation.

And it doesn't surprise me that google was mostly useless on this one.

It's probably a combination of the enclosed space and the agitation of the air from the showerhead spraying water. That, and it's either stay in and endure the smell, or burst from the bathroom all naked and half soapy just for a breath of fresh air, possibly traumatizing your housemates in the process.
