"There are only two types of Super-Heroes; Those who can fly, and those who can fall skillfully enough to keep from dieing".

I'm pretyt sure this is a quote from somebody famous or semi-famous, but till i can figure where I had heard it before, this quote is credited to [livejournal.com profile] khristle :)

Flash does not fly, nor does he super-jump. His sole travel ability (indeed, his only power) is superspeed.
Wolverine doesn't have any kind of skill involved in not dying, he could fall out of a plane as gracelessly as a crashtest dummy and his healing factor would just stitch him back together. Nor does he fly.
Better than half of the X-Men alumni do not have any means of flight but the Blackbird jet. Even Nightcrawler admitted way back in Second Genesis that if he were falling, he couldn't just bamf to the ground, as the law of conservation of momentum would splat him the second he materialized.

...And yet Nightcrawler has fallen many, MANY times while somehow skillfully avoiding death :)

If The Flash were to fall out of a plane (or be in some other way find himself plummeting towards the ground in a way that would cause death in an average person), he would use his super-speed to cushion his fall, thus skillfully falling without dieing.

If Wolverine were to be falling, we would twist himself in to the positions that would cause wounds requiring the least amount of quick-healing damage, and of course he would NEVER DIE, thus having skillfully fallen without dieing.

All yer X-Men will either be (a) Fliers, (b) Very acrobatic or (c) trained in "Teamwork" (an excellent skill) allowing them to rely on their team mates for assistance to the ground.

Any Super-Heroes who CAN NOT survive a fall to the ground in some way will no longer be Super-Heroes after the fall; they are brightly colored spandex-clad corpses.

I tells ya! Only two types of Super-Heroes!

Actually....there is a THIRD type of Super-Hero! The kind that exist only in their own minds. They have no speed, healing, ,falling, flying, nor indeed, ANY superpowers at all. They actually have to use carbon monixide emitting autos to transport themselves anywhere. They don't even have planes or homes powered by alien technology!

These are deeply delusional people (also known as mundanes) who should be avoided at all costs. Please fly, fall, teleport, or hop the nearest dolphin taxi as quickly as possible, to a destination as far from the subject as possible.

Or the ones just tough enough to take it.

The Tick? (I recall the first issue has him going wub wub wub wub wub with a pole he landed on)

The Hulk? Can't fly, can just jump crazy far and make a big crater when he hits.

"Tought Enough To Take it", in my opinion, counts as "Falling Skillfully". I also consider "Dumb Luck" to be a skill. Wasn't it a skill in most non-fantasy RPG's of the 80's?

I figured "Falling Skillfully" meant "Buzz Lightyear's Falling With Style".

I think Dumb Luck is in all RPGs, called "Hit Points". :)
