Date: 2013-06-04 03:17 pm (UTC)I see you're trying to take time out to glisten, time permitting? ;) (What is "gleen" in this context?)
In just 7 days...
Date: 2013-06-04 04:44 pm (UTC)"Gleen" is one of the perks of my weekly task of delivering day-old baked goods to the senior center. Every day of the week, our organization drives to various grocery stores and restaurants to gather up the day-old baked goods, near-expiration meats, etc to redistribute to various food banks and other organizations on a daily basis. My job in the organization is to take a van load of stuff every Thursday to the North Shore Senior Center and, in exchange, people who are part of this organization get "first dibs" on the stuff before it goes elsewhere.
If Qdoba has too much meat/rice/bean et at the end of the day, they bag it up and we take it. If Papa Murphy's made up too many take-n-bake pizzas in advance and didn't sell them all last night, we take them. All that stuff in the Starbucks display counter? Replaced on a daily basis. Costco made too many giant muffins? We take 'em :) Produce isn't pretty enough for QFC to put out on display? That' ours :)
Since today is one of my off days, I can go and have dibs on stuff :) It's how we can afford to live on a single income!

Date: 2013-06-04 06:01 pm (UTC)I'm glad that the food isn't going to waste. I know a lot of companies participate in programs like that, and I think it's pretty cool. It's not like we NEED unblemished produce or oven-fresh baked goods. In fact, most of the time when we buy baked goods, they don't get eaten immediately, so what's a day's difference?
