"Old Age" is trying to strike a perfect balance between "Well WE did that ALL THE TIME when WE were kids, and we all turned out just FINE" and "Oh no... ANOTHER of my friends has Cancer / had another Heart Attack".

Filling up the little pool we got for Molly today, and I was tempted to drink from the hose but then remembered something about the sunshine heating the hose and releasing some sort of evil carcinogen or other poison, but then I thought "Well we did it all the time when I was a kid and we all turned out just fine!" followed by "Whoa... maybe that's one of the reasons people get Cancer?"

Need to strike a balance between informed and bull-headed, I guess...

Just a thought, relative to plastic and warm water...how many of the water pipes in your home are plastic?

I'm fat because of the endocrine disrupters I ingested from a heated garden hose, I just know it.

A better reason not to drink from the hose (at least until it's been running for a minute or two)? Freakin SPIDERS. My brother drank a spider right out of the hose once, spitting out most of the legs and screaming through the yard in utter disgust.

Pretty deep, man. I think all of us straddling Gen X & Y are in about this same place right now, finding the balance between informed and bull-headed. Just dont let it steal your joy. I wouldnt place hose drinking any higher on the danger list than drinking heated bottled water, or anything from a restaurant menu. Cells mutate & bodies wear out. Almost everything we do causes these things. You can spend what life you have worrying about it, or you can embrace the life you have right now and live in it.
