Is this really a concern?

That' a deep question, isn't it? I mean, sure, back in the day maybe? But now, with all the main-stream acceptance and acceptance... does it really make you a Nerd if you go to ComiCon?
No, wait... that's not the real question.
The REAL question here is of if being a Nerd is really something to be worried about any more! Do people really go around saying stuff like "Gee I hope nobody thinks that I enthusiastically enjoy something other than booze and sex"?
Simply GOING to ComiCon doe not make you a Nerd, but you're most likely already a Nerd. Only way to NOT be Nerd is to go to ComiCon and NOT get excited about anything you see there.
Going to ComiCon makes you a Nerd just as much as going to a Baseball game makes you a Jock :/

Date: 2013-06-30 04:47 am (UTC)The stories to be gained from the hunt were almost as valuable as the comic books themselves. The non-comic things found in shadowy corners (pizza crusts in dusty boxes whose mold could have cured cancer). The responses from the comic store owner when asked 'Do you have the X-Men at the Texas State Fair (an insert in the Sunday paper)?' The response to this day still floors me. 'Yeah, I have it, but I just don't feel like getting it right now.' There's a reason that Gary's Comics eventually went out of business. :D
Nowadays, all people have to do to find something is look it up online. Somehow pointing and clicking a computer mouse just isn't as fun.
I did eventually find the comic book at a flea market. But that's a whole 'nother story.
