Just made a batch of what I lovingly refer to as "Mom Eggs", a recipe I learned from my own Mommy over the years :)

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • 8 to 12 Eggs
  • Half Gallon of Tap Water
  • Big Pot
  • Stove

STEP 1 - Put your eggs in your pot (being careful to not break them) and cover them with your half-gallon of water. Put on stove and turn the corresponding burner control to "High".

STEP 2 - Go do something that should only take a few minutes, but leads you to doing something else which then reminds you that you really need to do this other thing as well.

STEP 3 - Sniff the air and say "Is something burning?" and go to the kitchen to see if maybe you left a burner on or something.

STEP 4 - Discover the red-hot pan full of hard-boiled eggs that all the water had evaporated from.

STEP 5 - Nonchalantly say "Oh! Eggs are done!" and turn off the burner.

STEP 6 - Remove pan from the hot burner and move it to a cold back burner. Leave there for 4 to 6 hours, or till the pan and eggs are cool to the touch, or till you remember that you really wanted to eat a hard boiled egg.

But it's SO MUCH EASIER than using a timer! Timer goes off when I'm cooking eggs, I'm all "Who do you think you are, Eggs? Tryin' to boss me around? Screw you, Eggs! I'm my own boss, I do what I want to do!"

Your mom and my paternal grandmother may have a few relatives in common. The local thrift stores used to keep extra pots and pans behind the counter, just for my grandmother. She had the ability to burn water; and in doing so managed to ruin a LOT of pots and pans.

Her cooking skills were so bad that my dad and his siblings had open invitations to eat at their friends house whenever they wanted. This was in the early 1940's. Back when children could be disciplined in public and/or put on bread and water rations.
