Y'know how sometimes when you're in a long-term relationship that suddenly ends through no fault of your own (you "Get Dumped") and you find yourself dating somebody who looks A LOT like the person who dumped you only they're a lot meaner/crazier/dangerous but you struggle to keep the relationship alive because you just miss your old mate SO MUCH and you feel this new person is as close as you're ever going to get to being with that person you actually loved again so you end up doing and saying terrible things to justify continuing the relationship with the new terrible person?

I think this is why so many people who loved Buffy The Vampire Slayer keep watching "True Blood".

The truly scary thing about True Blood is that the television version is going to end much, MUCH better than the book version. It doesn't matter how they do it, it will still be better.

I like the books but I don't care for the show. It was okay the first couple of seasons, though it was a little overdone on the unnecessary sex/violence side for me. I stopped watching because I didn't like where they took the characters. I thought the books had a decent ending, though the plot of the last one was a little hectic and not tied together as well as I would have liked. But the way the books ended, the overall character arc, feels right to me and I'm satisfied with where Sookie ended up.

That's a pretty good analogy.
