Jun. 17th, 2003 07:43 amI have survived thus far in life by listening to the most primal self preservation instinct that my body has - Pain. If it HURTS, that's my body saying "Hey, knock it off! Don't do that any more!" Touching a red-hot stove burner hurts, so I don't do it any more. Sticking a butter knife in an electrical socket hurts, so I don't do it any more. Doing things that may or may not cause a person to go blind over and over and over again until you chaffe hurts, so I don't do it any more... or at least as often.
The point is that yesterday we started our *REAL* workout program. Crystal and I joined a Gym last week, and as part of the membership we get a free personal trainer. Since our Personal Training wouldn't start till Monday the 16th, all of last week we dutifully went in to the gym at 6AM every morning to do 20 minutes of Cardio exercise on the Elyptical machines. It was fun! We both came away from it sweating profusely and "feeling the burn". it was a *good* burn, though! On Friday, I ven actually said "You know what? I finally understand what all those health-nuts are talking about when they say that working out actually feels good!". This is a phrase I had sworn I would NEVER say.
And then on Monday, The Trainer took over. A solid HOUR of sticking me on different machines and devices of the Spanish Inquisition designed to get a confession of my sins before they kill me. Lots of me saying to her "OW THAT REALLY HURTS!" and her ignoring my pain. She wants me to do the exact same thing at least 3 times a week.
Today, I hurt more than ever before. more than the red-hot burner, more than the electrical socket, more than the uncomfortable chaffing. Today, I can barely move my arm. Today, every breath I take makes me say "ow".
And tomorrow morning, I'll be going and doing it all again :(

Date: 2003-06-17 08:25 am (UTC)You should take it on your own pace until your body feels it's not enough to do that pace, and you keep doing more and more every time. I take it that way, it's less painful.
By the way, what's the name of the gym?

I do the same. I'm addicted to working out. It's true that you GET more energy by expending energy. I am way too wired on an average and if I don't work out - I can tell. I get groggy and tired and cranky
