076 - Comic Book Stores
Mar. 18th, 2015 08:24 pmYesterday I was reminded of just how happy it makes me to go into a comic book store without any reason to do so other than to just look around. It's been a good three or four YEARS since I just went and hung out at a comic shop, and I really had no idea that I missed it so much!
It was a little hole-in-the-wall shop in Mill Creek, across the street from a casino on the back side of what looks like an abandoned building behind a 7-11, with NO SIGNS to let you know that a shop is back there - THE BEST KIND OF COMIC SHOP IMHO! The type of shop that survives despite not bringing in tons of casual shoppers! The type of shop that you wouldn't know about unless you already knew about it. It's a *secret* that exists in plain sight!
It felt so good to rummage through their back issues and haggle and talk about the love of comics and the history of comics... a full day later and it STILL fills me with happy just thinking about it :)
I'm sorry to admit that all my Comic Interactions since about 2010 (if not earlier) have been the once-a-year Emerald City Comic Con, and Free Comic Book Day where I take advantage of as many sales as possible. I never have the time or luxury of just going in and *browsing* any more, especially in a shop with a good assortment of vintage comics :)
