This sounds like something I would be interested in buying from you. Send me an LJ message if it comes to fruition.

I'll put it on LJ as soon as it's beyond the planning stages, hopefully by the end of September? Inspired by my recent acquisition of 44 vintage E.T. pins and buttons, combined with seeing how well "Mystery Boxes" were selling for other retailers at a recent convention :)

I have a decent AMD mobo with 3.5 GHz quad CPU and a 1GB overclocked Radeon 5750 GPU sitting in my closet. No RAM or drives, but if you want it, it's yours. It's about four years old, but it's virtually the same hardware I have in my PC and I run video games and video editing software on it. It's left over from Russell's upgrade. The GPU is big, so the case will need plenty of room for it if you want to use it.

OoooOh, that just might be awesome thank you!

But then again, I've really been looking forward to buying my first computer that wasn't a home-brew Frankensteinian system... something with a warranty and a legal copy of a name-brand OS like Windows and impossibly garbled tech support...

Dare I dream?

I have a wonderful Dell Studio One all-in-one system that Dell refuses to support me on, so I had to install Ubuntu on it and now it's got all sorts of weird power and/or overheating issues. I can either devote more and more and more time to cobbling systems, or I can just bite the bullet and get a system that can do all the stuff we want it to do.

Conflicted :/

I've always had the best luck with the ones I built myself, but that's just me.

Me too, but each time I do it I realize just how far behind the game I really am. I go "Oooh, TWO GIGS OF RAM and EIGHTY GIGS OF STORAGE! That's more than I'll ever need!" and then I see the standard right now is 4GB Ram and a TB of storage :(

On the PLUS SIDE, though, this conversation made me go and investigate my Ubuntu Dell's issues, installed an event logger so I can hopefully see what's wrong with it... because really, I've got a very nice and perfectly good quad core system just *sitting there*, I'd best at least TRY to fix it before I take on another building project :)

Good luck! You know how to find me if you want the hardware.
