207 - The Dawn Of Molly's Golden Age
Dec. 1st, 2015 12:56 pm"Things were never, nor will they ever be again, as good as they were when you were 10-to-12 years old". I'm not sure if that's the correct wording or who said it first, but the first time I ever heard this truth was from writer Mark Evanier - in his attempt to quell the arguments of just exactly when "The Golden Age" of Comics began and ended. As a general rule, most people think the best of just about *anything* was somewhere around when they were 10 or 12 years old.
You'll have a lot of music that you listen to in your life, but whatever you're listening to when you're 12? THAT'S the music you'll always love in one way or another - usually as a "Guilty Pleasure". For me, that would be Abba, Spike Jones, and 1970's Country Western stuff (Kenny Rogers, CW McCall, Boxcar Willie) because that's what my Dad listened to when I was 10.
You'll see a lot of movies in your lifetime, but there has NEVER been a better year for movies than when I was 11 years old in 1984 (Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Neverending Story).
Food was better. Comics were better. Cars were better. Everything was the absolute best it could ever be between 1982 and 1986. It was all uphill to that point in time, and it's all been downhill since then.
And now it's Molly's Golden Age. All the stuff we've done up till this point will have little meaning in her adult life. Oh there will be memories and traditions and happy warm thoughts about all the stuff we did, sure... but these are the years that will mold WHO SHE IS and WHAT SHE LOVES. I can record these years for her and show them to her when she's 30 so she can say "Wow, so THAT'S where that all started for me?"
I'm excited for this stuff :)
