033 - My Daughter The Snitch
Feb. 25th, 2016 04:06 pmI have mixed emotions on this, but regardless of that, Molly is getting a Slurpee as a reward for this.
Molly's "Best School Friend" (best friend that goes to school with her, which is her overall third best friend) has, in the vaguest terms possible, "Disciplinary Issues". I really have no idea what that means... all I know is that their teacher told us this during our last Parent/Teacher Conference in a tone that said "I'm trying to discourage them from hanging out with each other, and I'd strongly advise that you do the same but I can't come right out and say that because each child is a special unique snowflake".
This friend rarely ever gets "Star Coupons" - I'm sure you had something similar in your elementary school, little slips of paper that the teacher would hand out for good behaviour and then you could trade them in at the end of the week for candy or stickers or stuff.
So this friend, she started running a Star Coupon Scam with Tic Tacs and a pack of gum. Teacher charges you five Star Coupons for a piece of candy, right? Well this friend has a pack of gum and a box of Tic Tacs, starts selling them to her classmates at cut rate prices and getting a HUGE STACK of Star Coupons.
Molly figured that this was wrong and warned her friend, reminding her that the Star Coupons were supposed to be for good behaviour. The friend scoffed at this advice and *may* have mildly threatened Molly with a "You better not ruin this for me", so Molly went and told the teacher.
The Star Coupons were confiscated, and the candy that the friend had "Sold" had already been consumed.
Now on the one hand, I feel really bad for the Friend - she was very enterprising in this endeavor, used a little good old Free Market Capitalism, and was shut down by "The Man".
But since it's *my daughter* who did the snitching, I'm kind of proud - she saw a situation she thought was wrong, she tried to rectify the problem, and went to an authority figure when the situation could not be resolved :)
