CONVENTION!!!
Feb. 10th, 2003 11:28 pmSo Sunday was the big Emerald City Comic Book Convention in Seattle. And here I am just now getting around to writing about it!
HIGHLIGHTS!
-Met Eric (Savage Dragon) Larsen, got to be the first (and possibly only) person to ask him how his hands were. About 2 years ago, Eric got a nasty case of Pnuemonia that left him very weak. But being the professional that he is, he continued to pencil 4 different titles at once while inking two others and still writing a total of 3 different books. He started to lose some of his dexterity, and experienced terrible arthritic-like pain in his hands and arms. At the request of his doctor, Erik gave up work on all his projects except for his own creation, Savage Dragon (because to not do *something* with comics would be like death to him). He is finally getting back in to the convention scene. He says that he is much better now, but his hands still get a numb-tingly feeling every now and then.
-Got lots of really cool free stuff. Being the first person in line paid off with multiple sets of Daredevil Movie posters, Alex Ross posters, promotional posters, comic books, and pin-back buttons. Me loves the Free-Crap!
-i was the second person to go through Phil Foglio's scratch-paper sketches, resulting in 4 great pieces of artwork for my collection (if you don't know Phil or his work, definately check out His Web Site). A great rough-draft of a poster he did for a gaming convention, a "Clank" (from the book "Girl Genius"), a page full of character concept sketches, and a great picture of Phil with his head bursting in to flames from anger.
-I went in the the convention with around $60, came out with nearly $400 worth of comic books and other stuff. Gawd Bless the Quarter Bins! 5 for a dollar!
