Yes, it was the weekend of the Emerald City Comic Book Convention. The BIGGEST Comic Book Convention this side of the Mississippi that isn't in California (those bastards). This year was to be special to me, because I was budgeted to have $200 to spend... about 4 times more than I have EVER had to spend at a comic book convention (GOSH but being gainfully employed is swell)! I requested the entire weekend off from work just so I could make sure I would be the first in line for this show!

So the PLAN for the weekend was to go as such:

-Come home Friday night at 2am (after work).
-Get up at 6am in prepration for The Big Day.
-Prepare for convention (pack lunch, gather comics, etc).
-Pick up gift for Chris (Mr. Leap-Year B-Day).
-Go grocery shoppng.
-Buy tickets for convention at local Ticketmaster outlet.
-Tidy-up apartment.
-Go to bed no later than 9pm, visions of comic books dancing in my head.
-Get up at 6am Sunday morning.
-Out the door no later than 7.
-In line for convention no later than 8.
-Doors to the con open at 10.
-Birthday lunch with P&C at noon.
-Back to the convention by 2 for all those last-minute despeartion sales.
-Home by 5:30, where I could snuggle in to bed with my schmoopie and read comic books till I fell asleep :)

As you can see, I had it PLANNED.

Unfortunately, on the ride home Friday night our NEW car decided to just up and die. Walked home in the freezing cold rain (about 1 mile, may as well have been 200 miles for MY overweight out-of-shape body), and got to bed at about 4:30 where I lay there unable to sleep till 6 when the alarm went off. Then we took a bus back to Wal-Mart (where the car lay dead) and pushed it in to an actual parking space so it wouldn't get towed away.

Came back home and I slept for about 5 hours while Crystal made some arrangements. We took a bus to a Hyundai dealership in hopes of getting a NEW (actually new, 2004) car and let the interest rate be damned... but that didn't work out because of my crap-tastic credit. But there was still hope! My brother's mechanic friend (a professional, not just a beer-guzzling guy who looks at the engine and says "Yup") was going to drive down and look at ouor car for us! Acording to the guy who sold us the car, it was probably just a blown fuse and all we had to do was wiggle the battery cable a little bit. Phil (the Mechanic) checked it out for us in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Starter is shot.

Electrical systems are all haywire.

No dash lights, tail lights, and the headlights work intermittantly.

Radiator is shot.

In short, this car isn't going anywhere.

So Crystal and I go home and try to get me sleep, considering that we'll have to take a bus to the convention tomorrow (a 2-hour buss ride for a 15-minute trip). We finally crawl in to bed at about Midnight, and once again I am unable to sleep. But I *am* able to just lie there and let lower back pain start setting in from all the walking I have been doing. Sleep never comes, ONLY PAIN.

Once we got to the convention, it was all great (a subject for another post... this is my Bitch-n-moan post right now). Got to go have B-Day lunch with the birthday boy and everyone which was very nice, and they even gave us a ride to Kent where we needed to pick up a car from my brother.

All in al, the weekend turned out very VERy good, just not how I had planned it. And so I must complain!
