Boy or Girl?
Sep. 20th, 2005 08:25 pmToday we had our BIG ultrasound. The one where we got to find out the sex of our baby!
Up till now, I have been pretty much set ont he stereotype of wanting a boy; the guy is ALWAYS supposed to want a boy! Plus there's the faux (at least I HOPE it's not real) pressure my Dad has been laying on me for years about needing a boy to keep the Pierce Family Name in circulation. But today as we watches the grainy black-and-white blobs on the ultrasound screen, I thought aout our bay *seriously* for the first time since conception.
Boy or Girl? I've always thought that there was a very simple rule regarding raising the two:
Little girls are easier to raise up till the age of 13 or so, which is when you have to SERIOUSLY start being worried about them. Your "Little Angel" who was always so cute and polite is now dressing, smoking, swearing and acting like a $5 hooker on 2-for-one day and if you try to say anything about it all you get is yelling and angst and more rebellion.
Little boys, on the other hand, are Demons in the most Biblical sense of the word. Lots of "DON'T TOUCH THAT!" and "STOP DOING THAT!" and "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!" involved in rasing a boy... until the age of 13 tat is. At 13, he locks himself in his room and you rarely have to see him unless he needs food or money, or possily if he's knocked up his girlfriend.
Lots of pressure on ME as the FATHER if it's a boy. I've got to teach him all the manly things. How to pee standing up. How to avoid wearing pink and/or pastel colors. How to make crude comments towards wimmin with large knockers. How to be a man. Quite frankly, I'm not much of a man myself, so teaching these things to a little one scares the bejeezus out of me. But regardless of how much I screw it up, he'd still always be my little buddy :)
With a little girl, there would be less pressure on me; all I have to do is be the Daddy. It's my *JOB* to embarrass her in front of her friends and potential mates. No matter how much a screw up it up, she'd still always be my little princess :)
So at this point in the Ultrasound, I'm all pins-and-needles wondering which I really want; boy or girl? I finally come to he conclusion that I don't really care; I just want to know what it is so I can know what direction I should be planning my future!
( So you've read this far... wana know what the baby is gonna be? )
