It's been a really long time since "The Funnies" section has actually been funny. For a very long time I said that they should be re-named to "The Slightly-Less-Depressing-Than-The-Rest-Of-The-Newspaper".
But now I've discovered THE FUNNIEST COMIC STRIP OF ALL TIME!!!
And it's been there ALL ALONG! I was just reading it wrong!
GARFIELD IS THE FUNNIEST COMIC STRIP IN THE NEWSPAPER, PERIOD!
All you have to do is menatally edit out EVERYTHING IN THOUGHT BALOONS.
This usually means that John is the only character who says anything. So instead of a strip about the witty observations of a fat cat who loves Italian food, it's now the sad and twisted story of a menatally unstale fellow who yells at his cat alot, and the cat who just stares at him! Here's a few examples:
