Uniquely Nerdy Idea
May. 25th, 2010 02:05 pmThis may come as a shock to all y'all, but I kind of enjoy going to Comic Book Conventions.
I know, I know... I'll give you a few moments to let this sink in...
When I go to a Comic Book Convention, I like to meet as many of the guests as possible and I try to match the meeting with an appropriate memento of the person. If it's an Artist I like to get a sketch. If it's an actor I like to get a picture. If it's an author I like to have them write something personal for me.
But Comic Book Writers are difficult for me. A signature on a comic book cover means nothing since he didn't draw it or plan it and it rarely has anything to do with the actual story inside. There's no room inside/on a comic books for a "To Brian, thanks for enjoying my stories" dedication. And a picture with a comic book writer is about as good as a picture with That Guy In The Next Booth At Denny's.
So next year I'm thinking of asking Comic Book Writers at conventions to write me a one-page scene script... sort of the prose version of a "Quick Sketch".
I think this would be awesome! Imagine if you could have an unpublished page of Neil Gaiman script in your collection, created specifically for you? I think that would be AWESOME!
