Last night I had the most glorious and restful night of sleep I can ever remember, despite my hesitance to actually allow myself to try and fall asleep - I dreaded the now perfunctory 3am wake-up headache and was unwilling to set the wheels in motion for such pain.
I *think* I owe it all to a wondrous pillow that
khristle got for me yesterday off of the Free section of Craigslist! Listed as "Free Magnetic Pillow", she did some research and found that even if it WAS full of snakeoil and hokum, it was still a $60 pillow (up to $120 new on Ebay!) and therefore MUST be somewhat comfortable right? After we spent a good amount of time laughing over how it would "balance my Aura" and "Scientifically align my sleep-poles for maximum personal energy" and "Raise my Thetan levels", she went and got the pillow for me.
It looked and felt HORRIFIC.
A hard rectangle of upholstered foam rubber, it felt a lot like a bench cushion from a 1970's Camper, complete with being covered in a hideous UPHOLSTERY like one would make a couch out of instead of satin or cotton or even a nice polyester blend. It was like being at a friends parents house and being told you can sleep on the couch, and you improvise a pillow by grabbing an armrest cushion off the love seat that nobody sits in because it's just so darned uncomfortable. It was THAT BAD.
Or I should say it was that bad *looking*.
I replaced my pillows (a super-squishy feather pillow and a brand-new Costco Memory Foam pillow that I alternate between using all night long) with the new Magnetic Pillow and gave it a try. It made a few squeaky styrofoam sounds as it rubbed up against our headboard, BUT I didn't have to adjust it or anything! Didn't have to wad any of it up under my neck, didn't have to fluff it, didn't have to search for "The Comfy Spot" - It was just perfectly comfy!
But was it really comfortable-comfortable, or was it "Gee this couch cushion isn't nearly as uncomfortable as I thought it would be" comfortable?
I flipped over on my side. Usually when I flip over on my side in the night is when all my Pillow Troubles begin because I have to re-adjust and primp and beg and position the pillow *juuuuust right* or else my ear gets crushed and my neck gets bent in sacrilegious ways. But The Magnetic Pillow? It was a Goldilocks Dream of being JUST RIGHT, no matter what position I went in to! How weird for something that felt like a piece of upholstered styrofoam?!
Still, I didn't trust it. I've had PLENTY of pillows feel "Just Right" as I'm going to sleep, only to wake up at 1am to find that the pillows have fallen in with the wrong crowd and are now juvenile delinquents drinking and smoking and running around with women of loose moral fiber - these pillows ALWAYS go BAD. But I figured I'd give it a shot.
And then my alarm went off at 6:30. No headache! No sore body! And my Thetan levels are perfectly balanced with my newly aligned Aura!
Seriously, I... I never thought it would work. This is GREAT!
